A workshop organized by the GOPxie collective (the Gender of Oncoprophylaxis) and sponsored by the SiRIC Curamus, the Cermes3, and the Sorbonne University’s Biomedical Humanities Initiative
This multidisciplinary workshop intends to open a conversation between humanity and social scientists, healthcare professionals, and patients’ organizations about interventions on the body, whether therapeutic or preventive, specifically in the subfield of oncology that recently was transformed by the inclusion of genetic knowledge.
It aims to precisely question the diverging treatment of women and men’s bodies by drawing from studies addressing gender relations and the social production of health inequalities. It also means to highlight the lived experiences of the various actors who constitute the field of health: patients and relatives, healthcare professionals, and members of patients’ organizations.
Keywords: Genetics – preventive and therapeutic surgeries – gender
